1. Overview of Patient-centred Health Applications - Ng Chirk Jenn , University of Malaya, Malaysia

In the past decade, many health applications have been developed to improve health care delivery. This shift is due to the increase of technology use especially via the mobile phone which has been become widely available and affordable; It allows health care to be delivered to people anytime anywhere. Patients can access to information via the search engines such as Google, chat groups, consumer health devices and mobile applications. These health applications can help to educate, motivate and empower patients to take care of their own well-being with the ultimate aim of improving their health outcomes. The first lecture will provide an overview of the current state of patient-centered health applications.

2. Addressing Patient Agenda: The Visit Tool - Tun Firzara Abdul Malik , University of Malaya, Malaysia

Values In Shared Interactions Tool (VISIT) is a website where patients can enter their health concerns into their mobile devices (mobile phone or tablets) or computers before meeting the doctor. Doctors can then access this information via the electronic medical records before the consultations. Individual in-depth interviews with the patients and doctors revealed that the website (1) facilitated patients to communicate their full agenda to doctors; (2) helped address unmet patient needs as it gave them opportunity to raise other issues besides their chronic condition (3) improved rapport between doctor and patient and (4) facilitated doctors to organize their consultation around the patients’ concerns.

3. Empowering Men to Screen: The ScreenMen App - Teo Chin Hai ,University of Malaya, Malaysia

ScreenMen is a mobile web app that provides comprehensive and evidence-based health screening for men. It uses a self-driven algorithm to assess users’ health and provides personalized advice to them based on their own health risks, which mimics an actual consultation with a doctor. This application was developed based on needs assessment interview with men, who were also involved in the whole development process based on user-centered design.
