This workshop will encourage network engineers & NOC staff to work for integrating North American R&E networks, GEANT/Asi@Connect and APAN, especially for international advanced applications. This workshop will focus on advanced network research & engineering projects as well as the updates of APAN member/partner networks, and will help APAN to be one of the advanced research & education networks in the globe.

Agenda :

1. SingAREN Open Exchange-Update and next phase - Simon Peter, SingAREN

Over the last 2 years, we have seen a tremendous increase in connectivity within and beyond the region. Bandwidth has also increased tremendously, currently with multiple 100G links connecting to SingAREN Open Exchange (SOE), eg CAE-1 100G link between Singapore and Europe. SingAREN is now moving toward the development of a distributed POP across the island, so that international partners can land at either POP will be connected. It also provide resilience for the POP and connectivity.
The talk will provide and update on the connectivity at SOE and share the vision of the distributed POP.

2.  APAN 100G backbone - Takatoshi Ikeda , APAN-JP

Asia Pacific Ring (APR) was established in 2017 and the regiliant backbone between Asia and U.S. has been deployed. In 2018-2019, upgrading circuits to 100G in intra Asia-Pacific is progressing and we can make a mutual backup in the region. In this talk, I'd like to introduce the current situaion of the circuit upgrade in APAN region and propose the resilient APAN backbone

3. Hong Kong Open Exchange (HKOX) Updates - Justin Kwok

The Joint Universities Computer Centre (JUCC), the consortium of the tertiary institutions of Hong Kong, has launched the Hong Kong Open Exchange (HKOX) point at MEGA-i in March 2018, which also serves as a Research and Education (R&E) node for the Hong Kong Academic and Research Network (HARNET). HKOX is a long-term initiative with goal of connecting Hong Kong academic and research networks with global ones. This presentation provides the latest updates and the infrastructure of the HKOX.

4.   HKIX Development and HKIX-R&E Updates - ​Kenneth Lo, HKIX​​​ , ​Ryan Ng, HKIX​​​

HKIX Research and Education (HKIX-R&E) Network was started and operated by HKIX since 2008. The main purpose of HKIX-R&E is to facilitate those NRENs have presence in Hong Kong to do interconnections among themselves and do peering with commercial networks at HKIX more easily and at a lower cost. In Feb/2019, HKIX has upgraded the connections to 2x100G from MEGA-i to HKIX. The speaker would share about the migration experience during the upgrade, also the planned works for HKIX and HKIX-R&E network.
