Objectives: 
Increase awareness of the tools, services and activities expected to be provided by a successful national federation providing authentication / authorization services to its members. These training sessions will focus on the following topics sharing the knowledge and experiences of existing and new formed regional federations.

  • Which federation registry do you use, (Jagger) (…and how do you use it?)
  • Platforms for IdPs, How to you train people to install/admin it?
  • Platforms for SPs, How to you train people to install/admin it?
  • Marketing and Communications for your Federation

02. Overview of the Backfire Program for APN48 - Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation
An overview of the backfire training activities and meetings that will occur during APAN48 in Malaysia

03. Federation Architectures - Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation
A brief discussion on the different type of federation architectures that have been deployed globally. We will identify their strengths and weaknesses, the effort involved in deploying and maintaining and their future directions. Architectures include Mesh, Hub and Spoke, Hybrid and Multi-Protocol.

04. Tools to support Federation Operators - Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation
The main output of the operator of an identify is trusted metadata. There are a number of open-source tools that will simplify the curtation of federation entities and the creation of signed federation metadata. We will discuss available options and the choices that have been made by federation operators in the APAN region.

05. Discovery Service - Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation
What is a discovery service, does your federation need to provide a centralized DS and what open-source options options are available. We we also investigate what options have already been deployed by federation operators in the APAN region.
