Session Chairs:
Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation

Agenda:
01. A History of IdP deployments in Australia - Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation
The Australian Access Federation (AAF) has been operating for over 10 years superseding an earlier pilot federation that tun for about three years. Over this time organisations have been deploying and maintaining their Identity provider software, primarily Shibboleth. This has required an investment by each organisation to develop technical staff skills and federation operators to assist with supporting this infrastructure as an integral part of the federation. Many approaches have been taken to ensure the delivery of these services and thus the continual operation of the identity federation. This discussion will review the history of IdP deployments in Australia, the approaches taken, the influences at the time and the level of success of each. The federation operator MUST support their organisation that provide identities, as without identities there will be no federation.

02. Options for Identity providers - Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation
There are many options available for organisations to use and connect an an Identity Provider to a higher education identity federation. These include open source, vendor options and social identities. As a federation operator you will be expected to support these connections. To sustainably be able to support these connections it makes sense to limit these options to a few as possible. In this session we will discuss strategies to help ensure your organisations deploy software that you as the federation operator will be able to successfully support.

03. Discussion on Deploying IdPs - Terry Smith, Australian Access Federation
APAN federation operators will be asked to discuss their plans and initiatives to roll-out identity providers across the higher education and research sector of their own nations highlighting any roadblocks that have appeared or they anticipate.
